Future Transport Challenge

A STEM workshop, suitable for KS2 to KS5, that explores the issue of increased congestion and poor air-quality in urban areas. Using an interactive dashboard, students can see in real-time the impact of the travel choices we make. Working in groups, they’ll then consider creative solutions (social and technological) to deliver the improvements they believe are achievable over a 5-year timeframe. Finally, they have the option to present their ideas to the class for discussion.

Systems & Processes

This workshop, which can be tailored for KS2 through to KS5, shows how organisations continually improve systems to deliver better, and quicker, service. Working in teams, students build products on a simple production line and are then coached on a range of improvement tools… the results being measured against the clock. We close with a look at how these traditional manufacturing tools are improving service delivery across other sectors such as healthcare, leisure, and retail.

Car of the Future

This hands-on workshop starts with students (from KS1 to KS4) building a Gravity Car. After testing them we discuss momentum, friction, mass, and gravity before moving on to build cars powered by batteries, capacitors, and solar panels. We discuss how we’ll generate power in the future and how we can store it… a valuable introduction into one of the great STEM challenges. We can also supply the cars ready-to-assemble, or the components, or a parts list so you can buy your own. Full instructions are included.
